Aaron Koenig Releases Pop Song To Celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day

Aaron Koenig usually makes music about spiritual topics that rocks and groove, but he also loves Bitcoin.

Therefore his new single is a pop song about Bitcoin Pizza Day, which the global Bitcoin community celebrates on May 22nd.

On May 22nd 201 , the first ever purchase of a physical item using Bitcoin was made: two
pizzas from Papa John’s. An early Bitcoin user from Florida offered 10,000 bitcoins in a Bitcoin chat to anyone who would get him some pizza, the typical geek food.

He probably mined those Bitcoins himself on his normal computer, which was still possible in those early days. Today, 10,000 bitcoins would be worth around 780 million US dollars, which would make the two pizzas sold on that day the most expensive food in history. Laszlo Hanyecz, the legendary pizza buyer, was later quoted as saying that he had no regrets and had actually made the offer in order to become part of Bitcoin history.

For this reason, 22 May has become known as ‘Bitcoin Pizza Day’, which the global Bitcoin community celebrates by getting together and eating loads of pizza–something of a Christmas for devotees of the Bitcoin cult.

Aaron wrote this song about the legendary pizza-buying experience and deliberately
composed it in the style of Italian pizzeria music, with plenty of cheesy elements such as mandolins and wistful vocals. He even sang the chorus in Italian!
