Danish alternative rock band Wingfish celebrate more than two decades of music with their new album, “Dyads.” The band was founded in 2002 in the town of Gjern, and the newly released album is a mix of new studio recordings, a revamped older song and live recordings, all giving an album that feels like a reflection and a fresh beginning.
From the beginning “Dyads” makes itself felt with the piece “Gentle Ally”, opening with softly played guitars and a steady beat before slowly rising to a more substantial level. Jesper Larsen’s vocals are especially good, worn, expressive and with character. It then shifts to “Sacred Place,” a more expansive song with warm guitar tones and an emotional and engaging performance.
“Blown” from 2025 is one of the intriguing moments on the album, which was first released in 2019. This remixed track is a link between Wingfish’s past and present.
The live recordings are an added layer on this album. The band’s chemistry and raw energy on stage is evident on tracks like “I Know Everything,” “100 Ways To Go,” “If You Say So,” and “Someone Else.” These performances are immediate and alive with the driving drums, sharp guitars and expressive vocals.
“Dyads” is a good blend of atmosphere, intensity and reflection with its ten tracks and almost 55 minutes of duration. After 23 years, Wingfish, however, still have some energy to spare for alternative rock, and that’s what this album is about; it’s a look-back without feeling stuck in the past.
