“B!tch Please” is a totally different take on a tale of betrayal. Exzenya doesn’t take everything personally after getting hurt but she is confident, funny and free. This song is a way to turn a breakup story into a release.
It begins with a very subdued bass and guitar groove which gets the listener’s attention. The instrumentation arrangement is smooth and hypnotic-like, creating a mellow blues rock vibe before the vocals join and inject a vibrancy into the arrangement.
Much of the character of the song comes from Exzenya’s voice. She sings all the lyrics with attitude and confidence, playing between controlled verses, sharp lines and more emotional moments. It sounds like she’s talking to the woman she betrayed, but it also sounds like she’s gotten over the hurt. There’s a good deal of wit in the writing, too, which lends another dimension to the show.
The bass and guitars hold the track down with the vocal getting space to tell the tale. The guitars add grit, and the rhythm keeps things moving, but doesn’t overpower the arrangement.
One of the things that makes “B!tch Please” special is the shift of perspective. Betrayal is typically shown as the death of something, but in Exzenya’s case it’s the start of her freedom. That confidence lends the song bite and makes it feel more like a woman who’s realizing that she’s better off without the situation than a heartbreak song.
