Nigerian born independent artist Brodrick presents Chat, a deeply personal Afro drill record exploring the complicated emotions of love, cheating, conflict, and reconciliation. Taken from his debut album Tales Untold, Chat stands out as Brodrick’s favorite track on the project because its story comes directly from his own life.
Blending Afro infused songwriting and language with UK style drill production, Brodrick has developed a sound that reflects both his Nigerian roots and the musical influences he encountered after relocating abroad at an early age. His music combines melodic Afro sensibilities with the darker rhythmic energy of UK drill, creating a sound that feels personal while remaining contemporary.
Chat tells the story of a relationship tested by betrayal and the difficult process of trying to make things right. Rather than presenting a polished version of love, Brodrick draws from a real life experience, allowing the song to capture the tension, vulnerability, arguments, and emotions that come with trying to rebuild trust.
The track was produced by Prodbyzawn and Prodbygravey, while Brodrick wrote the song himself. As an independent artist, he remains closely involved in his creative process, using his own experiences as the foundation for his songwriting.
Brodrick’s connection to music developed through his experiences and friendships within the industry. After working as a road manager for Nigerian artist 1da Banton, he became increasingly drawn toward creating music himself. He eventually made his debut with Jump On Dem, beginning his journey as an artist and songwriter.
His debut album, Tales Untold, represents a collection of stories and experiences drawn from his life and perspective. Among the album’s tracks, Chat holds particular significance because it is personal and based on a true story.
With Chat, Brodrick continues to establish his identity as an independent artist bringing together Nigerian influence, Afro inspired expression, and UK drill energy while telling honest stories from his own world.
