“Can’t Run” is a statement that starts right away. This is a record of violence, betrayal, and the sense of being stuck in a lifestyle that’s hard to break free from. Anger is in the writing, but there’s also a sense of knowing that all choices have consequences.
“It Ain’t Easy” is more personal, exploring emotional pain, survival and what can mould a person. The melodic West Coast influence makes it smoother than usual keeping the message at the front. “Can’t Change” picks up where that reflective streak left off, examining how some experiences can leave an indelible impression on you.
The album is not monochromatic, but develops in several moods. Streety-harder tracks like “The Plug” and “Never Bite the Hand That Feeds” contribute to the project, as do “Different View” and “Cry Baby” for other sides. This energy shift prevents the eight tracks from sounding “the same tune over and over.
What holds “Black Heart” together is the storytelling. BR33Z WORLD does not give these records as discrete stories. Loyalty and ambition, connected from one track to the next, and lessons and pain all give the project an identity.
