Inner Child is soft and pleasing with a joyful atmosphere and d’Z mixes in jazz and funk and Emmie te Pas provides voices that streamline the song’s atmosphere.
From the beginning her voice is quiet and natural, and she doesn’t rush through the song. She gives the melody ample time, and lets each line flow over the music. There is a quietness in her delivery that provides a warm feel to the track but not overly quiet or flat.
The groove too is essential. The beat remains consistent and relaxed when the vocals kick in, providing the song with ample movement without sacrificing any of that laid-back vibe. The percussion adds a nice touch without taking attention away from Emmie’s voice.
The simplicity of the song is what’s nice about it. “Inner Child” talks about getting back to the playful and peaceful parts of ourselves that can easily get lost in everyday life, and the music reflects that idea well. It is light, but yet has a substantial thought behind it.
