After a long musical journey, PJ Far West Selecta (Bart) and Ras Mundele (Eric) reunite on “Jah Jah Riddims”, an organic roots reggae track born from a creative spark during the first lockdown. Eric provides the lyrics and keyboards, while Bart handles bass, guitars, drums, additional keys, and full home production.
The project builds on their history of playing in different bands throughout the 80s and 90s, where they first developed their shared love for music and live instrumentation. Reconnecting during the pandemic, they started playing again “just for the vibes”, and those informal sessions soon evolved into a fully fledged recording project. For “Jah Jah Riddims”, they looked for a voice that could carry the soulful, roots-driven character of the track, which led to a collaboration with Noya from Jamaica, discovered by Bart online. Noya’s warm and expressive vocal delivery emphasizes the spiritual and rhythmic core of the song.
Recorded entirely at home with real instruments, the track focuses on an authentic analogue feel and deep roots inspiration. Saxophonist Koen van Roy contributes melodic sax parts that add extra depth and dynamic movement to the production. The result is a contemporary roots reggae cut that nods to classic reggae while embracing the DIY ethos of today’s independent scene.
“PJ Far West Selecta meets Ras Mundele” brings together the singles the duo previously released, now complemented by an additional track: “Jah Jah Riddims.” The track previously appeared as the title song on Sista Mika’s latest album, recorded in collaboration with legendary Roots Radics bassist Flabba Holt. We believe the time is ripe to include the original version, voiced by Noya, on this EP. Enjoy this collaboration between two Belgian veterans and feel the vibe—an open invitation to let go and lose yourself in pure reggae vibes.”
